John Thornhills Marketing Masterclass: My achievements so far! week 5

I’m now into the Seventh week of John Thornhills Marketing Masterclass but this is the fourth week my blog has been online!

Guys things are starting to come along nicely, I have been doing some testing with different SEO keywords in the past couple of weeks. I had made a few posts using John Thornhills name in the title on a few of my blog posts, along with the words new student. I was just messing about really trying some different things, then about a week later I did some searches on these keywords on Google.

To my surprise I was listed on page 1 for 2 different keyword phrases, one of them was in position 4 on the first page and the other was in position 7 on the first page. I even had another keyword phrase on the second page, about position 5 or 6 I can’t remember which?

I have never done any SEO research before so you can imagine my excitement when I saw my new blog on the first page of Google with in a the first week? I just couldn’t believe it, so I now know that SEO does work, but I also know that you need to work at it to keep your websites up on that first page.

Anyway it’s been over a week since I saw them on the first page of Google now, I did another search yesterday and they have all gone down to about page 4+ so no websites on first page of Google at the moment.

Over the next week I’m going to be doing the same again but stepping it up a level and I’ll also be doing some article submissions and trying to get a ton of backlinks to my site and a few other little tricks I’ve been learning?

So I will let you know how that all turns out!

In the past week or so I have attended my first webinar, It was a good experience and we learnt some good stuff. There were a few technical hiccups along the way but John Thornhill managed to keep it going.
I have installed a new widget on my blog that links all of us students (of John Thornhill) blogs together so we can see how all of the other students are progressing and getting on?

We were also given a FREE membership to a website called Total-Web-Traffic from a guy called Dave Nicholson who is a friend of Johns (thanks Dave). It’s a good product so if any of you need help with getting more traffic to your websites you should start here - Total-Web-Traffic.

This week we are writing down some notes on things we are interested in, things we are good at and any types of skills we have. We are doing this in preparation of next week when John Thornhill starts to teach us all about product development?

So keep tuned in as in the next 6 to 8 weeks I will be well on my way to having developed my first product.

My earnings online to date: $0.39…..Lol its Started

If you would like to follow me on my journey then please subscrible to my mailing list at the top of this page and I will keep you up todate on my progress?

John Thornhills Marketing Masterclass: My achievements so far! week 3

John Thornhills Marketing Masterclass, Here are my achievements so far.

It’s now been a little over a week since I made my first blog post documenting my progress as a student of  John Thornhills .

Over the past week I have gained a great deal of knowledge from setting up this blog to discovering a deeper understanding about myself and what I want to achieve in the process. I have learnt that I can keep focused on the tasks ahead and most importantly achieve them with a little perseverance and the right motivational beliefs.

The sense of Achievement and warm inner glow you get when you sit back and take a look at what you have achieved can be quite intoxicating!  And will drive you on to achieve more.

My blog has come along leaps and bounds this past week as you can see I have changed the layout and added adsense code to the right side bar of the blog also you may of noticed the newly designed header and footer graphics I had designed for this blog which help to give my blog a more professional look.

I would recommend that if you have or are in the process of setting up a blog that this is something that you do consider and get yourself a professionally designed header and footer graphics. These are not that expensive to have designed and will give your blog that more professional look and feel about it!

My progress in the past week:

  • Joined up to aweber and have created my first subscribers list (this is ultimately the most important thing you will do in building your online business)
  • Added an opt-in box to my subscribers list on this blog
  • Learnt how to add banners and adsense advertising to blog
  • Learnt how to add pictures and video
  • Had a new Header and footer graphics Designed
  • Changed the theme and Uploaded new graphics
  • Researched other blogs and Marketers to see what value they offer to their subscribers list!

Its amazing how once you start to achieved your goals and start to see progress, How you start to let go of your fears and doubts and start to push on with the tasks ahead.  Your eyes will start to open that little bit wider and you realise that you can achieve what you started out to, this will drive you on to achieve much more!

My earnings online to date: $0…..Still early days

John Thornhills, New Student: be a postage stamp!

John Thornhills, new student: you need to be more like a postage stamp What?…I here you say read throught this post and by the end of it you will understand what i mean?

We could all do with a little more motivation and perseverance when it comes to getting started with our online business. It’s only human nature that you get easily distracted.

It can get very daunting when you are first setting up a business online, especially if you’re working from home as there are so many distractions eg. TV, computer games, pets, noisy children, just to mention a few and of course the old favourite being lazy!

I’ve had more than my fair share of times when I have been distracted and needed more motivation to get on with what needed to be done in setting up my online business.

The road to success is dotted with many tempting parking places!

I have been driving myself forward of lately by visualising my end goals. What I mean by this is I have set myself a goal for what I’d like to achieve within the next month then six months and so on.

These goals can be anything you like from earning an extra $200 a week to being able to quit your job in six months and work from home full time or just being able to buy that new sports car.  They are your dreams so start working towards making them become reality.

When I need a bit more perseverance when I’m finding something that needs to be done hard to do and at this point I’m normally cursing and getting stressed out. I have started to stop what I’m doing, take a deep breath and look over my goals and dreams to remind myself why I am doing this in the first place and surprisingly this does work for me!

It’s helped push me forward and realise that I needed to get focused because at the end of the day you are in business for one thing and that is to ultimately reach your goals and dreams.

It’s like a postage stamp being able to stick to one thing till it ultimately gets to its destination!

You need to be more like a postage stamp, sticking to it till you get to your ultimate destination, which in your case will be your dreams and goals.

So to sum up what I have just said, you need to write down your goals that you want to achieve for the next month eg. get your first blog up with say 10 blog posts and start linking to other sites.

Goals to achieve leading up to month six eg. to have built a list of say 500 people and to be earning $500 a week… whatever you want they are your dreams and goals!

Most importantly you need to keep these goals that you have written down somewhere close to hand, so that you can look over them as and when you are feeling lazy and have lost your way to your ultimate destination (remember be a postage stamp and stick to it).

Just a suggestion, I keep my goals pinned to my notice board next to my computer so they can be easily looked at.

Keep on pushing forward

John Thornhills, New Student: Learn from my mistakes?

John Thornhill had recommended to his students a hosting company called D9Hosting, He talked about how reliable and honest they are and how he had been using them for a number of years without having any problems, how they understand everything there is to know about creating and selling information products online, so that if you run into any problems they will know exactly how to deal with them.

If you were to go with another big hosting company and you run into any problems and you needed support, they may not understand your particular problem thats when things can get a bit tricky.

I should have listened to himMy first big mistake happened towards the end of the second week of training!

I had already signed up with another hosting company a couple of months before hand and had paid for 12 months hosting up front with a free domain name for life, but I had not yet used my account and I wish I’d never heard of this company.  This company is HostPapa, I don’t know if you have heard of them?  Well I now use D9Hosting and I am very pleased with their service.

This is my story how HostPapa let their selves down and more importantly me!

I had been following John Thornhills marketing course and everything was running smoothly. I had registered a couple of domain names with 1and1, I had redirected these domain names to HostPapa and also started to setup my blog on my hostpapa hosting account everything was running smoothly then it happened!  I tried to access my email and Cpanel accounts for my blog and kept getting an error message saying wrong password. I tried phoning their support line (what support) then I tried their online support service after typing away to their support person for nearly an hour, At one point I thought they had gone on his lunch break and forgotten about me.

They still didn’t know why I could not access my hosting account?  So I was told to go to their online support forum and open a support ticket and someone would get back to me ASAP.  Someone did get back to me the next day, superfast support service (Lol) and he tried to tell me there was nothing wrong with my account and I must have been using the wrong password?  I replied and told him I had not changed my password and I knew my password. That took another day for him to get back to me again, at this point my website had been down nearly two days and I was starting to get stressed and seriously pi**ed off!

I tried to login to my Cpanel account again but this time it said my account had been cancelled and I needed to contact their payment and billing department?  At this point I had dealt with  quite a few different support staff and they all told me different things, what a shambles, talk about one hand not communicating with the other? I was told that I had changed my password to my account (which I had not).  Another person told me I had sent an e-mail cancelling my account (which I had not).

When I asked them to tell me the email address from where the emails had been sent from he could not tell me? And every time I went onto their support forum it took them a day to answer my questions.  At this point I was pulling my hair out and had no confidence in them being able to offer me the service I needed, I decided there and then to cancel my account and open a D9hosting account like John Thornhill had suggested from the beginning of the course.

I could not start to redesign my blog on my D9Hosting account because my domain names were still locked into my Hostpapa account, so I needed to get access to my Hostpapa account (which I still could not at the time) and transfer everything to my D9Hosting account.

Amazingly when I told them I wanted to cancel my account for real this time, everything started to work again at this point I was told it was a server error?  That had created all my problems. Well I could of told them that from day one but it took them three days to work that out! (Thats some service) but by this time it was too late as they had lied to me and seriously put me behind with my work, my account had been down for three days! With no sign of an apology.

When I first signed up to Hostpapa it looked like a great deal, you got a free domain name for life as long as you hosted with them.  I also believed that after the 30 day trial if I decided to leave them and transfer my domain name to another hosting account it would not cost me anything and that was one of the biggest selling points for me.

What a load of bulls**t that was and below you can see a copy from the Hostpapa forum for an answer to this question:

Will it cost me anything if I decide to cancel my account and transfer my free domain name to another host?

Re: Free domain name for life/changing hosting

Hello and I apologize for the late reply,

We do not charge you to leave with your domain name, however if you choose to leave within your 30 day trial we would not be able to refund you the cost of the domain name (£9.99 for anything but .co.uk which is £19.98 because this type of domain must be registered for 2 years).  The domain is yours to take but we only cover the cost as long as you are a Hostpapa customer.

If you have any other questions about the domain names or our terms of service, please feel free to call our sales line or come on live support.

Kind regards,
Nelson

It was a different matter altogether when I tried to cancel my account. I was sent an email telling me I had to pay £10 + VAT which is about $16 if I wanted to transfer my domain name to another host.  What stunned me even more was they wanted the money sent by bank transfer (talk about trying to make it as difficult as possible for we to leave!)

I sent them a copy of the Hostpapa forum message, saying I had read this and it had been a big influence on my decision to open a hosting account with them.

Here is a copy of their reply:

Unfortunately the explanation you received in our forum was poorly worded. We have asked the representative who made the explanation to be more clear in the future. Domains are only free as long as you are a customer. There is a fee applicable for you to keep the domain and have it transferred away from HostPapa.

So he had lied.  I sent them that in an email but they never replied?  I wonder why?

Anyway I have learnt from this mistake.  I have done a bit more research on them and found out I wasn’t the only person to have problems with hostpapa and their poor customer services.  I won’t be making that mistake again and have now been with D9Hosting for about two weeks now and everything is going great!

If you are looking for a reliable hosting account, I seriously recommend D9hosting, you could do a lot worse.  I did at the start of my journey, don’t make the same mistakes i did.

Learn from them!

John Thornhills Marketing Masterclass: My first ever blog post! week 1

John Thornhills Marketing Masterclass, Wow….Heres where it all begins for Paul Thomas!

My first ever blog Post warts and all, so here starts my journey along the road to success as an Internet Marketer and Entrepreneur!

Let me tell you my story, my name is Paul Thomas and I am 31 years old. I don’t have a sob story to tell you about living on the poverty line or being in debt because I’m not, but I do know what it is like to have to work physically hard and long Exhausting hours to get the job done.  I am a tiler and stone fitter by trade, which does offer me a good living, but it comes at a price.

I often have to work long and physically Exhausting hours, which I have paid for with swollen and sore hands, neck problems and of lately a dodgy knee, resulting in regular visits to the Physio.

I have always had this nagging feeling inside that I should be working smarter rather than harder!

Have you ever tried to speak to a friend or family member about your hopes and aspirations that there must be an easier way to make money and you believe it will be online. There is always someone that looks at you blankly and tells you it will never work and you need to stop dreaming.

That is because they just don’t understand your dreams and do not share any of your hopes or aspirations these types of people are 99% of the time destined to be wage slaves and nothing else!

Well I intend to start working smarter from now on because I’v done more then my fare share of physical hard work! and it all about to change from Now on!

I have spent thousands of dollars on chasing the easy money online, looking for that magical pot of gold, you know the type of thing I’m talking about? i.e .you need to buy this course, that eBook, go to this seminar and you will be earning $20,000 per month for little or no work within weeks?  Only to find out that they don’t deliver and it’s not going to happen.  Sound familiar?

About 18 months ago, I finally woke up and smelt the coffee. I realized that if I wanted to be successful online I needed help!  I needed to stop looking for the easy money and start to run my own online business and to stop waiting for the cash to find me.  So I started to research different businesses online and realised I needed someone to help me who had already tasted success!  That was when I started to look for a mentor.

I came across John Thornhill on eBay and I immediately liked his online business model and the products he sold, his approach to business and his honesty to his customers. I followed his business for the next year or so still researching other online businesses at the same time, I had been doing so much research online I was in information overload, then on the 27th of January 2009 I came across John Thornhills Marketing masterclass.

It just made complete sense to me and I knew the time was Right so I joined his mentoring course and thats how my journey to online success started!

My Journey began on Monday 2nd of February 2009.  This is a 36 week step by step in depth course, I am now coming to the end of my third week and I have learnt and achieved more in this short amount of time than I have in the past few years!

Here is some of what I have learnt so far:

·         Registering domain names and started a web hosting account

·         Learnt  to edit DNS settings for domain names

·         Setting up email accounts for my website

·         Setting up this blog

·         Changing the blogs design and  theme layout

·         Created a clickbank account and created clickbank product codes (hoplink)

It’s still early days yet, but I now feel and know I have made the right decision!

I will keep this blog updated on my progress on a regular basis for you.  Why?… simply I intend to build a successful online business and hope to help others along the way to do the same.

You will learn from my achievements and my disappointments that I have faced along the way.

My earnings online to date: $0…..So here it all starts!

To our success!

Paul Thomas
